Why October 30th?
October 30th represents the 290th anniversary of John Adams’ birthday. In 1770, Adams risked his career to defend the Boston Massacre soldiers, standing firm in his belief that the right to counsel and the rule of law are the bedrock of a democratic society. As the BBA’s founding father, he showed that justice must prevail even when it is unpopular.
Today, as access to justice comes under attack, the Boston Bar Foundation carries that legacy forward. Together with the Boston Bar Association, we fund legal aid, train volunteer lawyers, and strengthen the profession.
