The Boston Bar Association is pleased to welcome MassMutual as one of its newest sponsor organizations. The mutual insurance company, which has been in operation for more than 170 years, joins the BBA’s growing community of more than 15,000 members drawn from law firms, in-house legal departments, government agencies, law schools, and nonprofit organizations.
“The MassMutual legal team is pleased to be part of the BBA and to partner with this network of dedicated legal professionals working toward a shared goal of increasing access to justice and inclusion in the legal profession,” said Mike O’Connor, General Counsel.
Founded in 1851, MassMutual has had a single purpose: “to help people secure their future and protect the ones they love.” Its dedicated team of attorneys operates in the areas of Dispute Resolution; Corporate Law (focusing on Intellectual Property, Contracts, Transactions, Employment Law, Cyber Security, and M&A); Insurance and Financial Services Law; Law Operations; Government Relations and Public Policy; and more.
The firm’s Boston office opened at 10 Fan Pier Boulevard in 2021, connecting the organization’s past and present while positioning it for the future, and enabling MassMutual to draw on the best talent and resources from Springfield and Boston.
MassMutual was the recipient of the Boston Bar Association’s inaugural Beacon Award for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in 2010, recognizing “the depth and breadth of its strategy for developing programs to broaden the pipeline of lawyers of color coming into the profession, fostering community service that benefits diverse populations, establishing diversity benchmarks for its in-house law department, and holding outside counsel to high standards for creating diverse legal teams.”
MassMutual participated in the BBA’s second annual Career Fair held in November. Representatives from MassMutual’s Law Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee attended and spoke about career and summer internship program opportunities. The Career Fair seeks to connect law students from historically underrepresented backgrounds with career opportunities in the Boston legal community.
