Dear Friends,
Today marks the beginning of Pro Bono Month. Last week at the BBA’s Spirit of the Bar we heard inspirational stories of how lawyers can make a meaningful difference doing pro bono work, a fitting kickoff to a month celebrating the unique responsibility of attorneys to give back to their communities.
You don’t have to work on an active pro bono cases to make an impact. There are two easy and important ways you can help this month:
Give. On Giving Day, October 30th, we’re asking our community of 15,000 lawyers to support pro bono, access-to-justice and public service. You don’t have to wait until Giving Day to give. Donations made now will count toward our goal and help sustain the programs and projects that support those with the greatest needing our communities.
Get involved. Join us at one of our Pro Bono Month events. Listed here with updates every day. Come to a training, a clinic, or a gathering of colleagues who share this commitment.
As lawyers, we have a unique understanding of how equal access to representation can make an enormous difference, helping decide whether a family stay housed, a child stays safe, or a worker gets paid what they’re owed. It is how our profession keeps its promise, and obligation, of equal justice for all.
Thank you for all that you have already done for our community. I hope you will take part this month, and I look forward to seeing many of you along the way.
Warmly,
David Ferrera
