New Leadership for the Summer Jobs Steering Committee Looks to the Future

Press Release

The Boston Bar Association today announced that Matthew McTygue (Edwards Wildman Palmer) will be joining Jeffrey Mittleman (Holland & Knight) as Co-Chair of the BBA’s Summer Jobs Steering Committee. Mittleman, who has been a member of the Committee since 2010, served as Co-Chair for the summer of 2013; McTygue has also served on the Committee since 2010. The BBA runs its Summer Jobs Program in partnership with the Boston Private Industry Council and the City of Boston.

The Summer Jobs Steering Committee recruits law firms and in-house legal departments around the city to hire Boston public high school students through the BBA’s Summer Jobs Program. The program allows students to earn money, get hands-on experience in a professional environment, and participate in enrichment opportunities. Throughout the course of the summer, students will complete a course teaching them how to make sound financial decisions, conduct a mock hearing at City Council, hone their communications and professional networking skills, and tour the Adams Courthouse while learning about the justice system.

This past year, the 20th anniversary of the program, the BBA reached a record high of 58 jobs. The Boston Bar Foundation funded 13 of those positions and has already committed to funding at least 10 students this coming summer. The Steering Committee is striving to increase the total number of jobs offered.
