The Boston Bar Association is proud to welcome McCarter & English LLP as a sponsor firm, joining the BBA’s community of more than 15,000 members drawn from law firms, in-house legal departments, government agencies, law schools, and nonprofit organizations.
McCarter & English LLP is a national law firm with nearly 400 lawyers serving Fortune 100 businesses from 12 offices located along the East Coast, Florida, and Indiana. The Boston office is McCarter’s second-largest office and delivers clients exceptional service in the areas of intellectual property, corporate, real estate, litigation, public finance, tax, and labor & employment law to biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and technology companies; colleges & universities; governmental agencies; national retailers; and financial services institutions.
“We are excited to advance our many years of participation in the BBA by partnering as a sponsor firm,” said Maria Laccotripe Zacharakis, McCarter’s Boston Office Managing Partner. “We look forward to continuing our pursuit of professional excellence and commitment to serving those in need by collaborating with the BBA and are inspired to serve Boston’s communities together.”
McCarter’s Boston office was established in 2006 when McCarter joined with Gadsby Hannah, a leading 70-lawyer firm founded by a former Chairman of the SEC and the former General Counsel to Raytheon in 1963. Service offerings grew significantly with the 2009 addition of intellectual property lawyers and professionals from Lahive & Cockfield. McCarter’s intellectual property practice in the Boston Office is currently the 6th largest IP practice in Massachusetts. With more than 100 IP professionals, including 32 Ph.D.’s, the group delivers comprehensive solutions to strengthen, defend, and enforce inventions, brands, and original works for business from international pharmaceutical and biotech companies to venture-funded start-ups.
Expanded practices in the Boston Office include the addition of former Assistant US Attorney Glenn A. MacKinlay, an accomplished trial attorney with more than 29 years as a prosecutor, who focuses on litigation, government investigations, and white-collar defense, counseling businesses and individuals on criminal and civil matters. MacKinlay recently served as a panelist at the BBA’s 2023 White-Collar Crime Conference.
Several partners and associates at McCarter & English LLP have also contributed their expertise and experience to the BBA through leadership roles within the BBA’s Sections and Forums, including the Intellectual Property Section and International Law Section, as well as by serving as panelists at industry conferences and CLE trainings and supporting major events such as the BBF Adams Benefit and BBA Annual Meeting.
Like the BBA, the firm is deeply committed to serving its communities, and its lawyers have dedicated their time to aid the Volunteer Lawyers Project of the Boston Bar Association, The Veterans Legal Services (who recently awarded McCarter its 2022 Outstanding Pro Bono Service Award for pro bono work on behalf of veterans in Massachusetts), Greater Boston Legal Services, Kids in Need of Defense (KIND), Lawyers Clearinghouse, PAIR, the ACLU, and Lawyers for Civil Rights.
