Article

The Boston Bar Association is pleased to welcome Freshfields to its growing list of more than 155 law firms, in-house legal departments, government agencies, non-profits, and law school partners.

With nearly 2,800 lawyers globally and approximately 500 across its U.S. offices in New York, Washington, D.C., Silicon Valley, and now Boston, Freshfields brings deep experience and expanding capabilities.

Freshfields opened its Boston office in 2025, led by private capital M&A partner Matthew Goulding. The new office reflects the firm’s strategic push in key practice areas, including private equity, life sciences, emerging companies, and growth-sector deals.

“Freshfields is excited to partner with the Boston Bar Association and its extraordinary network of legal professionals,” said Matthew Goulding, Managing partner of Freshfields’ Boston office. “Boston is a global hub for some of the most sophisticated and emerging companies in the world, so it is a natural fit for us to serve our clients.”

Freshfields has been recognized as a top-tier leader in several practice areas and is the only global firm with Band 1 rankings from Chambers Global 2025 in the following worldwide transactional, regulatory and risk practices: Private Equity, M&A, Antitrust, Dispute Resolution, International Arbitration, Tax and Public International Law.

“We are thrilled to have Freshfields join as a sponsor firm of the Boston Bar Association,” said BBA Executive Director Rich Page. “We look forward to their contribution to BBA’s mission of serving the Boston legal community, and supporting signature BBA/BBF events, mentoring, and pro bono programs.”
