Court Reorg Legislation Passes House and Senate

Press Release

The Boston Bar Association today reports the passage of legislation, H3644, that would create a civilian court administrator who would handle non-judicial functions, including budgeting and leasing, along with a chief justice of the trial court, whose responsibilities will include scheduling and disciplinary matters.

The bill that passed today has been in conference committee since June. The bill also contains reforms designed to improve hiring procedures and keeps the Probation Department within the judicial branch.

The BBA will pay close attention to see what impact these changes have on the administration of Justice in Massachusetts.
