Casa Myrna Joins the BBA as Its Newest Sponsor Member

Press Release

The Boston Bar Association (BBA) is proud to welcome Casa Myrna Vazquez (Casa Myrna) as its newest sponsor member, joining the BBA’s growing community of more than 13,000 members from nonprofit organizations, government agencies, in-house legal departments, law schools, and law firms.

“Casa Myrna is delighted to enter a new and exciting phase of our long-time partnership with the Boston Bar Association,” said Casa Myrna Chief Executive Officer Stephanie Brown. “For over 20 years, the BBA has been supporting Casa Myrna in our efforts to make a difference in the lives of survivors of domestic and dating violence by supporting our life-changing Legal Advocacy Program and Legal HelpLine. We look forward to expanding professional development, networking and many other opportunities provided through our new BBA membership.”

Casa Myrna delivers solutions to end domestic and dating violence through intervention, awareness and prevention. Founded in 1977 by activists in Boston’s South End to provide safety for women who were being abused by their partners, today Casa Myrna is Boston’s largest provider of shelter and supportive services for adults, youth and families affected by domestic violence. Every year, their residential shelter and community-based programs offer safety and stability for over 1,800 survivors of domestic and sexual violence who are least likely to access resources—Black, Latinx and immigrant populations from low income communities in Greater Boston.

Over the years, Casa Myrna attorneys have participated in the BBA’s Public Interest Leadership Program and have served on the steering committees of multiple sections; Managing Attorney Katherine Schulte is currently on the steering committee of the Delivery of Legal Services Section. The BBA regularly partners with Casa Myrna for important advocacy and training efforts, including a recent educational series on understanding vicarious trauma among attorneys. Casa Myrna is a grantee organization of the Boston Bar Foundation. The BBF is pleased to support the work of Casa Myrna, in particular, their Legal Advocacy Program which seeks to address the unmet legal needs of victims of domestic violence and commercial sexual exploitation.
