A surge in demand for the Boston Bar Association’s civics education program for elementary, middle and high school students in commemoration of Law Day has led to a renewed call for lawyer volunteers to teach 1,084 kids at seven different Boston Public Schools on May 1st, 2nd or 3rd.
With the guidance of the 2013 ABA theme, “Realizing the Dream: Equality for All,” alumni of the BBA’s Public Interest Leadership Program have developed curricula for elementary school children on the general issue of equality and middle and high school students on gender equality in the workplace. Attorneys interested in volunteering can view the sessions here and should email kdangelo@bostonbar.org to sign up.
The BBA provides all teaching materials and offers volunteers the option of teaching in pairs or solo. Training is optional, and will be provided for volunteers on April 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the BBA’s 16 Beacon Street headquarters.

Josiah Quincy Elementary School
Nathan Hale Elementary School
Samuel Adams Elementary School
West Roxbury Academy
William Ohrenberger Elementary School
Wolfgang Mozart Elementary School
Law Day, meant to celebrate the rule of law in a constitutional democracy, was first developed by President Dwight Eisenhower’s legal counsel. The BBA spreads this holiday into 3 days to accommodate the scheduling needs of the Boston Public Schools.
