Boston Bar Honors Bingham McCutchen for Helping to Advance Diversity & Inclusion

Earlier this year, the law firm of Bingham McCutchen stepped forward to draft an amicus brief on behalf of the Boston Bar Association in Fisher v. University of Texas, a closely watched case that will have ramifications for all who have a stake in advancing diversity in the legal profession — and for that matter any profession requiring a college or graduate degree. Late last week, at its Annual Meeting Luncheon, the Boston Bar Association awarded the firm its President’s Award in appreciation of the firm’s outstanding pro bono contribution.

Flanked by the two associates who had helped him draft the brief, Deanna El-Mallawany and Caleb Schillinger, Bingham partner Jonathan Albano accepted the award on behalf of the firm, as some 1,200 attendees applauded their exemplary work. While the case has yet to be heard, the brief provided the BBA and several major employers and law firms who signed on to the brief the opportunity to state their principles and explain the critical importance of diversity in the legal profession.
