The Boston Bar Association is proud to announce that South Shore Health has joined the BBA as its newest sponsor organization. The not-for-profit health system joins a growing network of more than 140 sponsor law firms, legal departments, government agencies, non-profits, and law schools contributing to the BBA’s mission to advance the highest standards of excellence for the legal profession, facilitate access to justice, foster a more diverse and inclusive profession, and serve the community.
“This is a great opportunity for our team to network with peers, share our expertise, and have access to educational and professional development programs,” said Joseph Driscoll, General Counsel, South Shore Health. “Joining the BBA will also allow us to contribute to the aggregation of thought around health care law and how best to assist our clinical colleagues in the critical work they do on behalf of the patients of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.”
South Shore Health is the South Shore’s largest independent health system, serving more than 1.2 million patients. The not-for-profit, charitable health system offers primary and specialty care, hospital care, home health and community care, emergency and urgent care, and preventative and wellness services. It is the parent organization of South Shore Hospital, celebrating its 100th anniversary, and South Shore Medical Center, celebrating its 60th anniversary.
South Shore Health is also active in the community; it provides emergency skills training to first responders and community groups, including supplying these groups with tools such as the overdose reversal medication, Narcan, and tourniquets for immediate trauma response. They also regularly plan and participate in collaborative emergency preparedness exercises with community public safety departments.
Members of the legal team at South Shore Health have participated as panelists for several BBA educational programs hosted by the BBA Health Law Section, including Atty. Driscoll, Lauren Corolla-Ahern, Assistant General Counsel; Lucas Hamory, Interim Chief Compliance Officer; and Jonathan Blanton, Associate General Counsel.
