The Beacon Fund for Diversity & Inclusion was established by EMC Corporation in 2016 and is dedicated to supporting the diversity and inclusion projects of the Boston Bar Association Today, these programs engage hundreds of members and volunteers through initiatives and public service opportunities aimed at advancing Diversity in the legal profession. Thanks to the Fund, this past year the Boston Bar:
- Provided meaningful career development and guidance through the BBA’s Diversity & Inclusion Summer Fellowship Program. The Fellowships offers paid summer internship positions in public interest law offices to Massachusetts law students who have shown a commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in the profession. This program recognizes the need for law students from all backgrounds to have the opportunity to gain experience with public interest law.
- Helped to increase the retention and promotion of diverse attorneys in the Boston community through a variety of education, mentoring, networking and professional development programs organized and run through the Diversity & Inclusion Section.
- Supported the work of our seven affinity bar partners to develop and identify diverse leaders, and provides a forum to collaborate strategically about efforts to continue to create a more diverse and inclusive legal community in Greater Boston.
The Beacon Fund and support of our donors and volunteers have allowed the BBA to expand its programming to further advance the missions of the Association and the Foundation. To help us continue this important work, you can donate to the fund here or contact Erica Southerland for more information.
