Recognizing her outstanding leadership as Chief of the Probate & Family Court and her extraordinary service as Associate Justice, Norfolk Probate & Family Court, Boston Bar Association President Donald R. Frederico today announced that he will be presenting Chief Justice Paula M. Carey with a Citation of Judicial Excellence at the BBA Law Day Dinner on the evening of June 1 at the Seaport World Trade Center.
“Chief Justice Carey personifies a commitment to excellence, service to the public and the fair and efficient administration of justice in a court facing tremendous challenges caused by woefully inadequate funding,” said BBA President Donald Frederico. “She is a gifted and tireless administrator with a keen intellect, remarkable energy and an extraordinary work ethic.”
Paula M. Carey was appointed Associate Justice of the Probate & Family Court in 2001 by Governor Paul Cellucci, and promoted to Chief Justice in 2007. Prior to becoming Chief, she earned a reputation as a superb trial judge.
As Chief, Justice Carey is known as a problem solver who tackles issues by drawing upon her wisdom, experience and common sense, and then crafting and implementing a practical solution. She has a firm grasp of the big picture but also pays careful attention to the details, particularly with regard to public policy proposals and their potential impact on the court, its personnel, and the parties who appear before it.
