With 27 firms and organizations already signed on to provide Boston public high school students with summer jobs and an introduction to the legal profession during Summer 2014, the Boston Bar Association’s Summer Jobs Program has reached 40 available student positions so far – well over halfway to last year’s total of 58. The Boston Bar Foundation , the charitable arm of the BBA, will be funding 10 of the 40 positions, which will make it possible for students to be placed in the legal departments of nonprofits and government organizations.
Since 1993, the Summer Jobs Program, run in partnership with the Boston Private Industry Council and Mayor’s Office, has afforded more than 640 diverse youth in the Boston public school system the opportunity to learn about legal work and earn money in a supportive, inclusive environment. Besides daily office experience, students will also complete the M. Ellen Carpenter Financial Literacy Program, hold a mock Boston City Council hearing, tour the Adams Courthouse, and take part in enrichment seminars designed to hone communication and professional networking skills.
The BBA would like to thank the 27 firms and organizations that have already committed to the Summer Jobs Program and its mission to enrich the lives of Boston’s youth:
