William F. Looney, a past President of the Boston Bar Association who served from 1984 to 1985, and a founding partner of the Boston law firm of Looney & Grossman, has passed away. His funeral will be tomorrow, November 8.
“Bill was a highly respected trial lawyer who contributed so much to the law, the community, and his family,” said Boston Bar Association Lisa C. Goodheart. “He will be sorely missed.”
An alum of Goodwin Procter and former chief of the civil division in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, he and three other lawyers founded the firm that later became Looney & Grossman.
Nearly a decade after serving as BBA President, Bill became the founding chair of the BBA Senior Lawyers Section. “I feel a little like John Quincy Adams, who served in the House after having been President of the United States,” he quipped of his new role.
A staunch supporter of access to justice for all, Bill was a regular at the BBA’s annual “Walk to the Hill for Legal Aid” for poor people at the Massachusetts State House. His many contributions to the Boston legal community are appreciated and will be remembered.
