A New Generation of Boston Lawyers Takes the Oath at Faneuil Hall

Article

Over the past two days, hundreds of newly minted attorneys filled historic Faneuil Hall alongside proud families, friends, and mentors to take their oaths and officially enter the Massachusetts bar. The atmosphere was electric as graduates from across the region stepped into the next chapter of their legal careers.

Speakers from the judiciary, the Boston Bar Association, and partner legal organizations welcomed the new lawyers with messages of pride, encouragement, and purpose. BBA President Suma Nair and Council Members Andy Strehle and Eugene Ho reflected on the significance of the moment, reminding new admittees that they were joining a profession grounded in integrity, service, and a steadfast commitment to justice. Mikaela Rice DeCortin, Co-Chair of the BBA’s New Lawyer Forum, offered a fellow new lawyer’s perspective, celebrating both the excitement and the enormity of what comes next.

Across all remarks, one message was clear: the kind of lawyer you become matters. Speakers emphasized that the Boston Bar Association is more than a professional network; it is a community where new lawyers can learn, grow, and build the relationships that will sustain them throughout their careers. They highlighted opportunities to serve, to advocate, and to help expand access to justice across Boston’s communities.

For the BBA, these ceremonies embody the heart of our mission: supporting and training the next generation of lawyers, strengthening the profession, and advancing diversity, equity, and access to justice.

To all the new attorneys sworn in this week: congratulations, and welcome to the profession. The BBA is proud to stand with you.
