Statement of Boston Bar Association President-Elect Carol Starkey

“With the nominations of Hon. Kimberly Budd, Hon. Frank Gaziano, and Hon. David Lowy – as  well as with his nominations to fill vacancies on the lower-court benches – Governor Baker has demonstrated his commitment to continued diversity within the ranks of the judiciary.
It was a great challenge to find suitable replacements for three sitting justices with 40+ years of SJC service among them.  But we expect these nominees would ably fill those seats and help maintain the SJC’s sterling reputation.
We are looking forward to hearing from each of the nominees during the confirmation process, as they receive the thorough screening from the Governor’s Council that is called for under the state constitution.”

The Boston Bar Association traces its origins to meetings convened by John Adams, who provided pro bono representation to the British soldiers prosecuted for the Boston Massacre and went on to become the nation’s second president. Its mission is to advance the highest standards of excellence for the legal profession, facilitate access to justice, serve the community at large and promote diversity and inclusion.
