BBA Webinar: Going the Distance with our Clients: Vicarious Trauma, Resilience in Ourselves & COVID-19

Tuesday, April 13, 2021 3:00 PM to 4:15 PM

The BBA presents live webinars and virtual events via Zoom. Please register for this program through your BBA account at least two hours before the start time of the program to receive the Zoom webinar link.

Most of the clients with whom we are working have experienced multiple forms of trauma during their lives: abuse, violence, immigration, poverty, along with a wide range of oppressions (racism, religious persecution, homophobia, etc.). And, at this moment in time, the pandemic and the inequities of suffering and response have added another layer of loss, uncertainty and worry. With a year of the pandemic behind us and more months ahead, staff are exhausted, with lower reserves for themselves and clients. Exposure to client’s traumatic experiences can change how staff view the world and alter how they relate to themselves and others. What more is needed in understanding vicarious trauma (VT) and vicarious resilience? How can staff better maintain boundaries? How can staff support colleagues? How do they keep going? In this webinar, we will focus on ways to sustain staff, especially at this time, with practical tips along with time to interact with one another. We will explore strategies and best practices to minimize the impact of VT/STS both personally and professionally.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explore the value of and strategies for setting boundaries with clients
  • Identify ways to better support colleagues
  • Consider next steps in strengthening team morale & team resilience
