CLE: Nonprofits and Solar Power

Wednesday, January 22, 2020 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Boston Bar Association - 16 Beacon Street, Boston, MA

Description:

For-profits and individuals are encouraged to use solar power through solar power tax incentives, which are of little use to nonprofits. What does the solar power marketplace look like for nonprofits? This course will explain the legal and business structures that have developed to allow nonprofits to benefit from solar power initiatives. Sample nonprofit solar power projects will be described from both a legal and business perspective.

This will also discuss the potential tax pitfalls that nonprofits must avoid when undertaking a solar power project, including unrelated business income tax, real estate tax exemption, and the private business use of tax exempt bond-financed property.

A reception with light hors d'oeuvres and drinks will be served after the course.
