CLE: Start-Ups – IP Issues, Corporate Formation and Data Privacy

Tuesday, April 23, 2019 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM
Boston Bar Association - 16 Beacon Street, Boston, MA

The early stage companies that constitute a valuable part of the thriving Northeast economy confront many of the same legal requirements and challenges that larger firms face. However, the funding, revenue, staffing, and risk profiles of these younger businesses means that legal advice must be carefully tailored to be useful. The goal of this CLE program is to deliver practical tips from the trenches, including:

  • What should the company’s IP strategy be and how does that vary by its technology and product or service offerings?
  • Are patent filings worth the expense?
  • What sort of corporate guidance makes sense, both regarding initial structure and how to anticipate funding hurdles?
  • And what of privacy and security issues if the business is in a regulated or unregulated market?

This program will provide an overview of the key issues facing start-up companies, including a discussion of IP issues (patents, trademarks and trade secrets), non-compete and non-solicitation agreements, data privacy and corporate formation issues. Attendees will gain valuable insights that will help them issue spot and drive effective advice for their own clients.
