Melissa is the Chair of the Tax Department at Nutter, co-chairs the Nonprofit and Social Impact practice group and serves as a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. She advises businesses, tax-exempt entities, and individuals on federal, state, and international matters. Melissa specializes in advising health care, higher education, cultural, and other charitable and nonprofit organizations, and their affiliates. Melissa served as one of the inaugural Co-Chairs of the BBA’s Tax-Exempt Organizations Section and as the Section’s Public Policy Committee Co-Chair. She has remained an active member of the Section’s Steering Committee, developing and presenting several brown bag lunch and CLE sessions. Melissa is also a founding Co-Chair of the BBA’s Mass. Gen. Laws Chapter 180 Working Group. She has served as a member of the Joint Strategic Planning Committee and as Co-Chair of the BBA’s 2015 Law Day Dinner. Melissa is a member of the BBF Society of Fellows. Beyond the BBA, Melissa served on the board of the Women’s Bar Foundation and currently is a member of its Emeritus Board. Melissa was selected as a “2016 Trusts & Estates Trailblazer” by The National Law Journal for her philanthropic advising. In 2019, Melissa was honored as a “Top Woman of Law” by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly. Melissa is a graduate of Miami University, cum laude, and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, cum laude.
