The BBA presents a two part series to prepare pro bono volunteers to work with Immigrant Youth. Watch PAIR's Elizabeth Badger's introductory pro bono training on working with undocumented immigrant youth.

In this session, Attorney Badger covers the reasons why many children flee to the U.S. alone despite the dangerous journey and what they face on their way to the U.S. and at the Southern border.  She provides interview tips and guidance on how to work with minor clients; discuss techniques to draft affidavits and gather supporting documents; and cover one powerful form of immigration relief, Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) Status, so that these youth may stabilize their legal status. SIJ Status is available to immigrant children who have been abused, abandoned, and/or neglected by one or both parents, and who meet other criteria.  Attorney Badger covers the probate court and the immigration processes of helping your client win SIJ Status.

Attorney Badger has worked in immigration law for nearly twenty years, focusing on representing non-citizen children, asylum-seekers, victims of crimes, and persons in prolonged immigration detention. She is a national expert in asylum law and has an expertise in working with immigrant youth.
