Description:

As part of its focus on supporting the wellbeing of lawyers across all practice settings, the BBA will be offering a series of programs this year on understanding and addressing the risks of vicarious trauma.

This first program is particularly geared towards attorneys who are relatively new to the concept of vicarious trauma and may be working with trauma survivors for the first time or relatively infrequently. All who are interested in this topic are welcome to attend.

Vicarious trauma can arise as an occupational challenge for professionals in various fields working with trauma survivors, and can affect anyone from pro bono attorneys working on a single case to seasoned legal services lawyers. This introductory session will provide an overview of what vicarious trauma is, how it manifests, and what practitioners can do to build resilience and cope with vicarious trauma when it arises.

This program is made possible in part by the Boston Bar Foundation's Joan B. DiCola Fund. This fund provides critical support for Boston Bar Association programs and initiatives that foster the education and professional development of lawyers.
